Lachung is a rustic mountain town in the north of Sikkim, India, at an elevation of 8,858 feet. It is located about 118 kilometres from Gangtok and is blessed with stunning snow-capped mountain
peaks, waterfalls, sparkling streams, and apple orchards. It is also known for its peaches and apricots. The market in Lachung is brimming with handicrafts, making it ideal for shopping. The residents
of Lachung are mainly Bhutias and are known as Lachungpas. Lachung is closely connected to the Lachung Monastery, Yumthang Valley of Flowers, and Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary.

The roads to Lachung are only passable depending on the weather - locals know this best. So, if you're planning on making the 6-8 hour journey, be sure to take an experienced operator with you to
avoid any trouble. The best time to travel to Lachung is between the months of March and June, and if you're looking to experience the winter wonderland that is Lachung, the snowy months of October
to February are your best bet. Just remember that separate permits are required to visit Lachung, which can be obtained from the Department of Tourism office in Gangtok.
